Atlanta, GA – Employees from Zep, Inc and Atlanta United removed more than 1,500 pounds of garbage from a local waterway.
Zep’s purpose is to make the planet cleaner, safer, and more productive. This is regularly achieved through the creation and production of cleaning products that are safe and effective on everything from a small stain on a carpet to some of the toughest industrial messes on Earth. Earlier this week, though, it was accomplished in person on the Chattahoochee River.
Led by the Chattahoochee Riverkeepers (“CRK”), Zep employees spent the morning wading the river to fill up garbage bags with debris.
“This was a great opportunity to show what we are about,” said Neil Grossman, Director of Marketing. “Team members volunteered for this opportunity because they believe improving the environment starts at home with each of us.”
“Stewardship is a key corporate value of Zep because we believe in continuously improving the safety of our people and products. We protect the planet by developing innovative solutions to reduce our environmental impact.”
CRK provided all necessary supplies including trash bags and gloves for this event. Year to date, participants at CPK events have removed over 43 tons of debris from the Chattahoochee River.
Registration for future cleanup events is available on CRK’s website https://chattahoochee.org/cleanups/

]]>We like to say that we are a people company, and that is intentionally reflected in our strategic priorities. In fact, the results of our 2020 ESG Materiality Assessment, a tool to determine what our stakeholders deem important, reinforced this, identifying two of our top five key priorities as health and safety and diversity and inclusion – both areas intended to put our community first.
Health and Safety
We have a huge responsibility this year especially with the COVID-19 pandemic putting health and safety in the spotlight on a global scale. Understanding the importance of cleaning and disinfecting the shared spaces that have traditionally brought us together, we created Zep Assure™, a comprehensive cleaning and disinfection management compliance system for segments such as commercial passenger transportation, education, offices and venues, and other business operators.
The evidence-based infection control strategies embedded in our Zep Assure Program help our clients deliver an unprecedented level of protection, now and in the future.
And just as we focus on the health and safety of our customers, we also believe it is critically important to take care of our own team. Without a team that feels safe and protected, we cannot make such significant strides in enabling public health and safety. So Zep has enhanced its data relevance by deploying new technology, which provides real-time reporting on workplace incidents to reduce future injuries among employees.
Care also requires prioritizing and protecting the mental and emotional health of our team, too – not just their physical safety. We do this through creating an intentionally inclusive and diverse workforce. We are stronger when we benefit from diversity of thought, ideas and perspectives – that is what drives innovation.
Diversity and Inclusion
Zep has created employee action committees and diversity and inclusion roundtables to continue its commitment to an inclusive workplace that reflects the uniqueness of its employees, customers and suppliers. In 2020, we filled eight senior leadership positions, five with ethnic minorities or women. By 2025, Zep plans to increase the use of minority-owned suppliers and overall gender and ethnic diversity by 20%.
“We want our customers to have confidence in our products and processes,” said Matt Duncan, Zep’s Chief Administrative Officer. “But we also want our customers to understand that we built Zep Stewardship from the inside out, and that starts with our people and our culture.”
We know our employees and communities are our most valuable resources. When we put employees first, they are better able and more motivated to contribute to our mission – and we need each and every person on our Zep team working together to achieve our goals.
We believe the social aspects of Zep Stewardship are foundational and that only by allowing a people-first mindset to guide our strategy can we achieve a better tomorrow.

]]>Zep Assure Program is a comprehensive new cleaning, disinfection,
and protection system for all types of work, study, and travel environments.
ATLANTA (March 3, 2021) — Zep, Inc. announces the launch of the new Zep AssureTM Program, a comprehensive cleaning and disinfection management compliance system for segments such as commercial passenger transportation, education, offices and venues, and other business operators.
The Zep Assure Program follows CDC guidance for maintaining cleanliness and enhancing disinfection practices to reduce the risk of infection spread, while maintaining a safer, cleaner, and more productive environment for all employees. This program is comprised of specific products, protocols and service solutions that can be customized to support the unique micro-mitigation needs of individual institutions and businesses.
The program centers on a process of continuous protection measures for critical touch areas (CTAs) – or areas in frequent use by multiple users, such as light switches and door handles. It begins with deep cleaning porous and nonporous surfaces to remove built-up grime and soil. This is followed by disinfection using Zep products that have been accepted by the EPA to kill the virus that causes COVID-19 as well as other widely circulated pathogens. The final step is to apply Zep’s Assure™ Armor Surface Protectant Pro coating to create protection on both porous and non-porous surfaces.
Zep’s Assure Armor Surface Protectant Pro coating is a long-lasting, revolutionary antimicrobial product that provides protection against microorganisms. This coating remains on the treated surface for up to 90 days and adds an extra layer of protection (please read the instruction on product labels before using).
“Businesses that encompass a wide variety of group settings, such as schools, universities, or commercial transportation companies, face particular challenges in protecting against the coronavirus,” said Philip Thonhauser, Chief Technology Officer. “The Zep Assure Program allows them to be confident in their ability to make these environments safer for students, employees, and travelers.”
Zep’s comprehensive suite of service solutions is included in the program and can be tailored to clients’ specific needs, helping optimize effective implementation and reduce labor and product costs. This support ranges from education and training modules, materials and compliance management tools to mobile applications that monitor CTAs to measure proof of clean. The offerings also include data collection, audits, inspections, color-changing “proof of clean” technology, and certification programs.
“Zep is dedicated to supporting our customers and communities, businesses and institutions as they reopen,” said Dan Smytka, Chief Executive Officer. “We are pleased to bring our 80-plus-year history of innovation in developing superior quality cleaning and disinfectant products to help businesses protect their customers.”
“The evidence-based infection control strategies embedded in our Zep Assure Program help our clients deliver an unprecedented level of protection, now and in the future, and reinforce the Zep commitment to creating a safer, cleaner, more productive planet,” said Smytka.
Zep provides a one-stop-shop for efficacious cleaning and disinfecting solutions that prioritize the safety of the end user. For further information about the Zep Assure Program, please visit www.zepassure.com.

Zep is providing 1 gallon bottles of hand sanitizer to all APS classrooms, with donations totaling 10,000 gallons. During the week of February 1st, Zep will also distribute hand sanitizer to parents or guardians through the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP), a program that offers free healthy meals to students at various curbside pick-up locations and designated school bus routes.
Zep will also roll out in-classroom awareness and education to select schools that opt in to teach safety measures that can help prevent the spread of COVID-19. The schools will be provided with 2,000 back-to-school safety kits, including reusable face masks, tote bags and a postcard highlighting best practices for hand hygiene. EVERYBODY.WORLD, a female owned and operated LA-based brand, provided the materials, which are made out of 100% recycled cotton and are biodegradable. Zep educators will also provide hands-on demonstrations that leverage black light technology to show how germs spread and the importance of proper hand washing and sanitizing.
Additionally, educational posters with key safety tips will be displayed in each classroom in the district, and digital mobile billboards will run throughout Atlanta from February 1-3, featuring creative, rotating headlines like “Coughing into your arm is sort of the new dab” and “Glad to see your faces again. Just don’t touch them.” The billboards will not only speak to the unique education sanitization program and offer hand hygiene tips, but also spread joy and smiles around the city, especially those returning to in-person learning after the better part of a year. The billboards will also stop near select college campuses including: Georgia Tech, Georgia State University, Gwinnett Technical College, Emory University, Spelman College, Morehouse College and Kennesaw State University.
“As students head back to school, it is important that we have measures in place to ensure their safety,” said Rachel Sprecher, Executive Director of Partnerships and Development, Atlanta Public Schools. “This program is designed to decrease health risks to students and their families and we are grateful that Zep identified this need and is generously providing the community with assistance.”
APS has also provided students and faculty across the district with PPE, including masks and hand sanitizer.
“As a parent with children in the APS, I know intimately how challenging it can be sending kids back to school during COVID-19,” said Greg Gastel, CMDO, Zep. “We’re in a unique position to provide community support and make that process safer, by making hand sanitizer accessible to those who need it most.”
